A light meter figures how much light is needed in a picture to be correctly taken with the correct exposure of light. The top picture was metered on the computer, it didn’t get much of the person. It made everything else dark because there wasn’t enough light metered to expose the rest of the picture. The bottom picture was metered on the person’s skin, when this picture was taken it got a lot brighter and showed the rest of the picture. It changed because the meter was different and had a bigger exposure of light. Spot metering can help when taking pictures because it can let you choose the amount of light you want in your picture.
